DAY TWO
The day began with a stroll around the sights of Yaletown and Gastown — on the way we encountered David Bowie posing as Batman and a White Walker inviting us to drink an iced beverage. Summer is coming, indeed.
One of the activities that we were most excited about before the holiday was cycling on the Seawall in Vancouver. It did not disappoint. We hired a tandem from Spokes and after a few near falls as we adjusted our balance, we had an incredible cycle ride around Stanley Park. Seriously, if you ever visit Vancouver, you NEED to do this.
Cai even recorded a video of our journey from the back of the tandem!
After that we wandered round the waterfront and engaged in some tourist fun (eating ice creams, standing under a house on stilts, posing in front of a lego whale… the classics).
We rounded off the day with one of the best meals we have ever eaten — at the Blue Water Cafe in Yaletown. Iain had researched the top seafood restaurants in Vancouver so we knew it was going to be good, but it was so much better than we could have hoped (of course, the fact that we sampled three whiskys and a couple of cocktails beforehand probably helped…)
We started the meal with a Seafood Tasting Menu (with dungeness crab, baby shrimps, scallop ceviche, tuna tartare and salmon terrine) and then Cai had Sablefish with a miso sake glaze and Iain had Scallops in a candied ginger and citrus sauce.
The day was so good that we are now wondering if this is all a dream and the evil robot overlords are imminent.
