DAY FOURTEEN
From Nehalem, we drove 100 miles down the coast to the town of Yachats – pronounced yah-hats – (one of the ‘Top Ten Coolest Small Towns of the USA’ according to Budget Travel magazine) and the Overleaf Lodge where we had booked an oceanfront room.
After the composting toilets and lack of running hot water in tiny house living, we were glad to be staying in a fancy hotel — especially since we had booked a romantic couples’ massage to start our stay.
This was the first day of bad weather on the trip so we were also pleased to be able to sit in a hot tub and watch the stormy ocean from afar — avoiding the nearby ‘unstable cliffs’ and ominous-sounding ‘sneaker waves’…
The weather cleared a little in the evening so we decided to walk along the coastal path into Yachats proper. Even though the wind was blustery and the skies were filled with rain clouds, we were secretly quite pleased at the opportunity to wear our waterproofs for the first time this trip.
We ate that evening at the Ona Restaurant in central Yachats, once again relying on TripAdvisor and Yelp reviews to find the best restaurant in the area. Eating our delicious pacific rockfish and dover sole, we were feeling very relaxed and happy indeed.
Of course, that may have had something to do with the Lavender infused cocktails we were drinking…
