DAY FIVE

After taking things at a relatively relaxed pace in Day Four, we wanted to make sure that we saw the key things that Seattle has to offer in Day Five — namely the Space Needle, the EMP Museum and, of course, the local music scene.

Oh, and some tasteful graffiti art outside our apartment.

First stop was Space Needle for lunch atop ‘Sky City’ — a pleasingly sci-fi location with its spinning observation platform 200m above Seattle. Despite some apprehension that this may be a tourist trap, it was actually an AMAZING experience. We enjoyed it so much that we kept on eating and drinking for hours, just watching the world spin by. By the end, we had spun around the city three times, drunk a full bottle of wine, ate far more food than we normally would for lunch, and then staggered off with smiles on our faces.

Next we visited the EMP Museum — something that Iain had been looking forward to ever since he first read about a museum devoted to alternative music and sci-fi/horror movies. It was more than he could have hoped for. Here are a few galleries of images Iain took of the exhibits:

1. Infinite World of Science Fiction

2. Fantasy: Worlds of Myth and Magic

3. Can’t Look Away: The Lure of the Horror Film

4. Nirvana: Taking Punk to the Masses

We ended the day in traditional honeymoon style — with a heavy metal gig at the nearby Capitol Hill rock bar Neumos. Accompanied by our friends Mark and Kevin, we saw the bands Lucifer, Pallbearer and High on Fire, drank the local pale ale, and experienced some of the real Seattle.

After all that, we were very tired… but very happy.
