DAY FIFTEEN
Before coming on honeymoon, we had pictured ourselves driving down US highways in the blazing sunshine while rocking out to great music and it was Day Fifteen when we felt most like we were on that kind of Easy Rider inspired road trip — out on the open road, driving 280 miles down the Oregon Coast, singing along to classic 70s rock, and seeking out the ‘real America’ (whatever and wherever that might be).
With her pink trainers resting up on the passenger dashboard, Cai spent much of the journey taking pictures from the window — capturing the incredible drive down the Oregon coastline and into California.
Our final stop for the day was the college town of Arcata and the cute and cosy ‘Bohemian Garden Studio’ — a great place to relax in the evening sunshine. Our hosts Ron and Kelly had even left us a few little extras including fresh olives, milk, craft beer and local wine.
Cai prepared a meal of roast vegetables, homemade nachos and dips — exactly what we needed after hours on the road.
We were also excited to have the opportunity to eat our corn on the cob using ‘unicorns’ from Archibald Sisters in Olympia. A little bit of kitsch to round off a perfect day.
